Mission Statement: The Oriental Dragon Boat Club, a non-profit corporation, is dedicated to developing personal and team skills of strength, endurance, technique, focus and synchronicity as it applies to the sport of dragon boat racing while promoting and representing other charitable non-profit organizations and the community of Oriental, North Carolina.
The Oriental Dragon Boat Club was started in 2012. We are very fortunate to have a regulation Dragon Boat with which to practice. Paddling a Dragon Boat is suitable for all skill and age groups (our minimum required age is 16 years). We offer regular training and practice sessions, as well as an opportunity to take part in organized races and festivals state wide, including the Oriental Dragon Boat Festival (usually held in August). A typical race is between 200 and 300 meters. We are always looking for and welcome new members.
Our practices are held at the “Wildlife Ramp” at the foot of the bridge in Oriental, NC. We welcome interested paddlers – no experience necessary. Come and join us for a free practice session to try it out. All you’ll need to bring is some water, and a hat and sunglasses if so desired, and you’ll be ready to go. The Club will provide you with a life jacket, safety orientation, paddle, and paddling instructions.
